Until this project is finished, what would you/people recommend as the current freest hardware to do PLCC chip programming?

[http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4312 PRG-056 True-USB PRO GQ-4X Willem Programmer Full Pack] has been recommended to me as something that works well, but both the hardware and software are nonfree (and the software only runs on Windows).

:Hi! As for software the answer is definately [http://www.flashrom.org flashrom], it's ''the'' universal, cross-platform, open-source flasher software. Hardware I don't know for sure. Apart from the hopefully-soon usable openbiosprog you can always use any motherboard supported by flashrom as an external PLCC "programmer". Or other hardware which can program PLCC chips (e.g. some 3COM network cards etc., but those usually only support older (parallel) chips and have a limited supported chip size, e.g. 128KB). The "buspirate" is also supported (at least to some degree) by flashrom, I don't know whether it can do PLCC chips, though. --[[User:Uwe Hermann|Uwe Hermann]] 17:05, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

::Thanks! So for now sounds like I should find and use a small/cheap flashrom-supported motherboard, perhaps with a [http://www.ioss.com.tw/web/English/RD1BIOSSavior.html BIOS Savior] or equivalent. I did some research and it doesn't look like the [http://code.google.com/p/the-bus-pirate/ bus pirate] supports PLCC, and the network cards don't support the 256KB+ PLCC images I need to work with for [http://lemote.com/english/index.html Lemote] computers.
